The design team at Contour constantly strive to create a kitchen living zone, it is at the heart of what we do and this month we're featuring a kitchen that beautifully showcases that ethos. The space is cleverly separated into different areas whilst still retaining a feeling of connectivity.
The cook zone - the engine of any kitchen and where most of the hard work is done is positioned near the breakfast bar allowing the designated chef to stay in contact with family or guests, creating a very sociable space in which to work. With ovens and cooling near by, everything is within easy reach and the powerful downdraft extractor minimises potential smoke, steam and cooking odours. The position of the breakfast bar offers some separation to the cooking area meaning the chef feels part of the action without being shut off completely but younger family members are safely kept away from hot pans.
Our client removed walls to create the space and in doing so has achieved fantastic luminosity within the kitchen. The views over the garden are stunning and allow natural light to stream in which is magnified by the use of reflective surfaces such as the mirrored splash-back and Silestone worktops.
The snug is positioned down some steps behind the breakfast bar. This area is used for relaxation, watching TV and catching up with homework meaning the family can be near by but not in the way.
By removing walls and making bold choices, our client now has a space that brings people to together and retains the functionality of a kitchen including preparation areas, cooking zone, dining and relaxation area. It is a fantastic example of modern kitchen living.
